Qingdao Best Steel Structure Co., Ltd. successfully undertook the comprehensive detailing, high-precision processing, and structural fabrication of the 500kV substation steel structures for China Energy Engineering Group (CEEC) Shanxi Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd. in Gansu, China.
As a crucial node in the regional 500kV Extra-High Voltage (EHV) power grid, the substation required exceptionally robust structural integrity. The gantry frames and equipment supports had to be engineered to carry massive electrical conductor loads, withstand strong seismic activity, and endure the severe wind loads typical of the Northwest China region.
Engineering & Fabrication Highlights
Heavy-Duty Gantry & Support Structures: Our facility manufactured large-scale substation gantries and equipment support structures designed with optimized stiffness and strength. These structures successfully fulfill the stringent deflection and safety criteria required for 500kV EHV operations.
Premium Certified Structural Steel: To guarantee zero-defect field performance, all main columns and beams were fabricated using premium high-strength structural steel ( Q355B/Q420B, fully compliant with international equivalents like ASTM A572 or EN 10025).
Military-Grade Welding & NDT: Given the massive dynamic and static stress on 500kV substation structures, all welding procedures were executed by AWS-certified welders in accordance with AWS D1.1 and GB 50205 standards. 100% Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), including Ultrasonic Testing (UT), was applied to all critical full-penetration joints.
Advanced Corrosion Resistance via Hot-Dip Galvanizing: Operating in exposed, harsh climates demands long-term anti-corrosion protection. All structural steel elements were processed in our advanced hot-dip galvanizing baths, complying strictly with ISO 1461 / ASTM A123 standards to ensure a maintenance-free lifespan of over 50 years.
100% Pre-Assembly Quality Assurance: To prevent any onsite installation delays for the EPC contractor, a 100% full-scale trial assembly of the massive gantry frames was performed at our factory. This ensured exact dimensional tolerances, perfect hole alignment, and precise match-marking.
