Composite Lattice Tower of Angle Steel and Steel Tube
Composite Lattice Tower (Hybrid Steel Tower) – Uses both angle steel and steel tube in the same tower. Typical configuration: main legs with steel tubes for lower wind drag and higher buckling resistance, diagonal bracings with angle steels for economical bolted connections.
Pros:Combines low wind drag of tubes with low cost jointing of angles;
Tuneable stiffness distribution (tube legs enhance global stability, angle webs facilitate field bolting);
Total cost between all angle and all tube towers, better wind performance than all angle.
Cons: Complex design, special transition joints between two section types, heavy shop drawing and lofting workload.
Application: Medium voltage urban transmission lines, cost sensitive projects requiring weight reduction, retrofitting works.
