Qingdao Best Steel Structure Co., Ltd. successfully undertook the professional structural detailing, precision manufacturing, and batch supply of 220kV overhead transmission lattice steel towers for the Qingtongxia Xiakou 200MW Wind Power Project in Ningxia, China.
Managed by Ningxia Ultra-High Voltage Power Engineering Co., Ltd., this mega renewable energy initiative required a highly reliable 220kV output line to safely transmit 200MW of wind-generated green electricity into the regional backbone power grid. Located in the northwest region, the project site experiences harsh environmental challenges, including strong desert wind gusts, significant sandstorms, and extreme temperature fluctuations, placing rigorous demands on the durability and structural integrity of the transmission towers.
Engineering & Manufacturing Highlights
Wind & Sandstorm Load Optimization: To cope with Ningxia’s severe sandstorms and high wind shear, our engineering team utilized state-of-the-art structural analysis software to optimize the truss geometry and weight-to-strength ratio of the 220kV lattice steel towers. The 4-legged design ensures supreme overturning resistance and structural stability under extreme dynamic loads.
High-Strength Premium Structural Steel: All main structural components and stub angles were fabricated using high-strength structural steel grades (such as Q355B/Q420B, fully conforming to global standards like ASTM A572 / EN 10025) to prevent structural fatigue and brittle failure under extreme seasonal temperature variations.
Heavy-Duty Hot-Dip Galvanization: Given the exposed, semi-arid desert environment, robust anti-corrosion is vital. All tower components underwent a premium hot-dip galvanizing process in strict compliance with ISO 1461 / ASTM A123 standards, delivering a thick and uniform zinc coating that guarantees a maintenance-free service life of 50+ years.
100% Pre-Assembly Quality Check: To ensure zero-error field erection for the power engineering team, a 100% full-scale trial assembly of the prototype 220kV tower was performed at our Qingdao manufacturing plant. This process guarantees perfect hole alignment, correct bolt spacing, and accurate match-marking, significantly reducing on-site installation time.
